Car Detailing in Abbotsford, BC

Abbotsford is the closest of these towns to the shop — about 40 km west on Highway 1. It is also the one where farm dust, bug season and a winter of highway brine all land on the same vehicle.

Where Abbotsford sits on this run

About 40 km west of the shop on Aitken Rd, straight along Highway 1. Of the three towns on this site it is the shortest drive in, and that matters more than it sounds like it should: the work that cannot leave a building is the work worth travelling for, and from Abbotsford that travel is barely anything.

One of the customers whose letters are on the reviews page writes from Abbotsford and first came to this shop in 1979. He bought a new car that year and wanted the finish kept like new. That is his account, in his own words, not ours.

Dust, fields and bug season

The thing Abbotsford does that nowhere else on this run does as much of is dust. Fields get worked, tractors use the same roads you do, and in a dry spell a fine gritty film settles on anything parked outside — out on the flats, over by the airport, on any street backing onto farmland.

That film is the reason so much Abbotsford paint has fine scratching in it. Dust is mildly abrasive, and wiping a dusty panel with a dry cloth drags it across the clear coat. If you take one thing off this page, take that one: do not dry-wipe a dusty car. Wash it, or leave it alone.

Bug season on the Sumas stretch of Highway 1 is the other one. Bug splatter is acidic and it etches into the clear coat if it bakes on, and the flats are where you collect the most of it. Spring pollen and tree sap do the same job more slowly, on the older and shadier streets.

Winter on the corridor, and what to do about it

The Highway 1 run between Abbotsford and Chilliwack is salted and brined all winter, and if you commute it you are driving through the spray off everyone in front of you. It goes into the wheel wells, the jambs, the seams under the doors and the underside, and it keeps working there until something takes it off.

Interior detailing, a hand wash, and clay bar and wax can be done where the vehicle is — a driveway, a stall at work, a yard. Paint correction, ceramic and graphene coating and paint protection film are done in the bay on Aitken Rd, which from Abbotsford is the shortest of the three drives on this site.

FAQ

Abbotsford questions.

My car is covered in field dust every summer. What is the right service?

Do not dry-wipe it — that is what puts the fine scratching in. A hand wash takes the dust off safely. Clay bar and wax pulls out what has bonded into the paint and then seals it, which is what stops the next lot keying in. If there is already visible swirling when you look at a panel under a light, that is paint correction, and that one is done in the shop.

Do you get bug splatter and road tar off?

Yes, both are routine here. Road tar and heavy oxidation take real extra time and carry an additional charge; either way it is quoted when the vehicle is seen rather than guessed over the phone.

The car sits outside all day where I work. Does that change anything?

It changes how often it wants doing, not what it needs. Anything parked outside all day collects dust, sap, pollen and bird mess, and all of it etches if it sits long enough. Protection is what buys you the time in between — that is the whole point of clay bar and wax at the short end and ceramic coating at the long one.
